Motorcycle Accidents
The highest percentage of motorcycle accidents occur in urban areas.
Texas, with its endless miles of open road, is literally one of the country's most ideal states for driving a motorcycle. Since motorcycles are not as stable on the road as cars with four wheels, they are more likely to crash. Recent data shows that 61% of all motorcycle accidents occur during the day at intersections in urban areas. Speeding, running red lights, and failure to signal are the main causes. The rest is attributed to poor climatic conditions, uneven road surfaces, driving drunks and not wearing a helmet.
Challenges Bikers Face When Determining Fault
There is a bias that exists against victims of motorcycle accidents that present obstacles making it more difficult to receive fair compensation. Insurance companies and juries unfairly assign blame assuming that cyclists are reckless and dangerous, therefore, responsible for any accident. The truth is that most motorcycle accidents are not caused by cyclists. With many more cars than motorcycles on the road, car drivers are less likely to be aware of cyclists. Accidents are more likely due to a distracted driver changing lanes without looking, uneven roads or highway obstructions, and motorcycle manufacturer's defects are examples of negligence, but not on the part of the motorcyclist.
